Khawanik (pl.) – Khanka (S.)
It is a Persian word used to refer to buildings that are established to shelter ascetics who stay in them to worship. They are bigger than corners. The Ottoman State gave much attention to them. Two of the most famous Khawanik in the Old Town are As-Salahiyya and As-Dawoodiyya Khawanik.
