Reason for the name
Named after the chief of the judges, Burhan Al-Din bin Jomaa As for the naming of the summer pulpit, it came from its use for speeches of ascites and the two Eids.
Builder
The Chief Justice Burhan Al-din Ben Gomaa.
ـ They built a pulpit of marble and colored stones of exquisite manufacture, with 13 steps, and also on AlKhateeb’s seat the is a marble dome.
The pulpit was renovated in the Ottoman era by Prince Muhammad Rashid in 1259 AH / 1843 AD, in the time of Sultan Abdul Majeed.
Moreover, the Ottoman logo (Crescent and Star) on both sides of the pulpit was added.
Before the building of the pulpit, it was originally a dome called the Dome of the Scale, then the pulpit was introduced in the Ayyubid era, with a staircase consisting of 13 steps.
ـ The Burhan al-Din pilpit is located on the edge of Al_Qibli nave of the Rock that is close to the Rabbana rails on the west side.
The head of the judges Burhan Al-Deen bin Joma’a had it built between 1345- 1388, and therefore it was named after him.
