It’s not known when it was dug, but surely it was before the was ordered by the Ottoman governor Mohammed Bey in 1700. The dome is northwest of the Dome of the Holy Rock
People get to the Cave of Spirits by a hatch that is followed by 12 stone steps from the south to the north. Along the right side of the cave is a banister or like iron pillars handcrafted without welding. In this cave, there is an Ottoman niche on its southern side. Also, it has two openings; one in the north side of the ceiling that is still visible until now, and the other was in the south but was closed after flooring the area surrounding the dome
