In 872 AH / 1468 CE, Ghars al-Din bin Shaheen Al-Thahiri mentioned it, saying: “and in Al-Quds al-Sharif, there is a terrace that view Al-Karak castle, and it is 4 days’ march to it.”
An Overview of the Landmark
Al-Karak terrace was constructed during the Mamluk era, at the time of flooring the courtyard of Qubbat Al-sakhra,in 1845 AD. It’s located in the southeast corner of Qubbat Al-Sakhra, “The Dome of the Rock”. It has a stone mihrab; niche. Some historians claim that the observer can see the castle of Karak, and that’s how it got its name, though in this age we know this is not accurate, but we can say that it is located on the way leading to the city. It used to be a place for calling the prayer.
