Location relative to Al-Aqsa
Located in the middle of the road leading to Al-Aqsa Mosque on the side of Bab Al-Amoud, specifically opposite Hospice Hospital, on the second floor next to the Hotel Ahram.
Reason for the name
This named after who was believed to be a righteous man who was buried in a shrine located behind the mosque.
According to the documents of the Foundation for Revival of Heritage and Islamic Research, the mosque is located within the basin No. 14 Old Town / Jerusalem, and vouchers 83, 82, 81, and a total area of 148 m.
One of the books issued by the Custodian of Jerusalem’s Endowments in the middle of the twentieth century mentions references to some of its features such as the mihrab, the arch and the remains of the minaret, its interior area is 120 square meters; it includes a water cycle and a minaret topped by a crescent moon.
Its current building dates back to this period.
Mr. Ahmed Al-Qara Jolie, Director of the Nation Bank in Jerusalem and Mr. Mohammed Abdo Helmi Pasha, submitted to the Jerusalem Waqf Department requesting the re-construction of Derghath Mosque for the spirit of the late Ahmed Hilmi Pasha. 1964/9/18, the contractor Khader Abu Suwai started work, and documents of the Foundation for Revival of Heritage and Islamic Research indicate coordination of the Oqaf Jerusalem Circle with its Arab municipality for this purpose.
The construction of four stores under the mosque completed in early 1966, the mosque built on 26/9/1966 and completed three months later, electricity used for lighting since Opening of the prayer in1967,
In the records of the Shari’a Court of Jerusalem, there are arguments about the endowment of Dergath Agha, who stood in the domed Dome of the Rock, according to the book of the Awqaf Commissioner, dated11/11/1953, the period includes Hakoura in front of the Governmental Hospital / Hospice registered under the number110, also includes four shops.
